The best part of a new restaurant is getting to know the people who run it. There is something about the history and culture of an establishment that makes it feel like you have a real connection to the space. It’s easy to forget that you are just eating a restaurant in the comfort of your own home.
Sure, there are plenty of restaurants where you can have a drink and go home, but these days that’s pretty rare. We’re talking about restaurants that still have local personalities, where you can talk to the owner about the day’s menu and say hi to him for a few hours before you head out for the night. That’s a luxury.
Well, I feel your pain, but I also know that in the city of Wheaton, you can sit and order a glass of wine while you wait and the waitstaff is there to greet you when you show up. I’m definitely not saying I’d go out for dinner at a restaurant (or any restaurant) and drink a whole glass of wine if I knew I would have to wait for a waitress to bring me a menu.
That’s why it’s also a good idea to have a few food items ready to go when you go out for a meal. And of course they’re prepared to give you the opportunity to say hi to the owner, or the chef, or whatever. The owners are probably not happy that you are there, but they can ask you to leave.
The guy who owns the restaurant is probably the most important person in the world to you, and when you get there you want to make sure you have a good time. If you don’t, you might want to remember that and make sure you really do.
And while we may not have the best job in the world, at least we do have the best job in the world. We want people coming to our restaurant, or our pizza place, or wherever, to have a good time. And we want them to also feel like they are making an important contribution to society. This is why we have a great customer service department, and why we work so hard to have great food and great service.
Most people wouldn’t tell you they were happy with their job, but for us, our restaurant in Wheaton, Maryland is all about making people happy. We’re not out to make you happy, we’re out to make you feel good. That’s why we do our best to make every guest feel at ease, and that’s why we do our best to make you want to come back for another visit. We want the people of Wheaton to be proud of us.
We want everyone of Wheaton to be proud of us. And we want you to want to come back. We want to be your restaurant, and we want to be your neighborhood restaurant, and we want to be your family restaurant, and we want to be your favorite restaurant, and we want to be your go-to restaurant.
Now, you might say that this isn’t really a restaurant. I mean, why would I go back to a place that’s basically a restaurant? But we have a lot of fun, we have great food, and we are proud of our location. We want you to be proud of us as well.
That last sentence is the hardest. It’s not just pride. We want to be proud of you, and I realize that this may be a little too much to ask, but we do want you to feel like you can look past us and say “I’ve been there. I know what it’s like.” We want you to have that comfort. We want you to feel like your restaurant matters.
